Oakham is looking to appoint an energetic, forward-thinking and ambitious Director of Admissions and Marketing.

Salary: Up to £85,000 depending on skills and experience

Oakham School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school of around 1000 pupils, aged 10-18. A uniquely balanced pupil community of 50:50 boarding and day pupils and 50:50 girls and boys live and work together in a beautiful 70-acre school campus, which is situated in the thriving market town of Oakham in the heart of rural England. Pupils who live in the local area enjoy the company of students from international backgrounds and this social harmony forms the basis of Oakham School’s friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere.

Reporting directly to the Headmaster, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Admissions and Marketing will provide inspiring and strategic leadership of the School’s pupil recruitment, marketing and communications activities, developing and implementing strategies to build on Oakham’s already well-established brand locally, nationally and internationally.

This is a high-profile and exciting leadership position and will most likely attract an experienced professional from the education sector with a track record of success in strategic marketing, communications and/or prior exposure to an admissions or pupil recruitment context. They will possess the ability to apply admissions experience and sound marketing principles to drive the School’s pupil recruitment strategy by thoroughly understanding both target audiences and the marketplace.

The successful candidate will bring significant leadership experience and will be an articulate, persuasive and credible ambassador for the School. Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship building skills will be essential, as will the agility and strategic skills to respond to future challenges and opportunities across the independent school sector.

The Head of Admissions will provide the vital function in the school’s recruitment of pupils, strengthening, establishing and managing relationships with families and supporting the admissions process.

The position will lead a collaborative effort to develop and implement both short and long-term recruitment strategies alongside the Head of Marketing and Head of Communication and Development to ensure student attraction, recruitment and retention for the school.

This is an exciting time to join the College with an ambitious programme of development
scheduled for the 175th anniversary, aspirations for global partnerships, and increasing interest for boarding places in a beautiful setting that affords pupils with the space and time to learn.
The Director of Admissions is a central role within the College and provides an excellent opportunity for a highly-organised, personable and collegiate individual to lead this key department at an exciting time. The successful candidate will lead on all elements associated with admissions and own the pupil journey from prospective to pupils commencing their education at Glenalmond while it is absolutely accepted that a whole school effort is required. The post-holder will work closely with Marketing, Finance, and Development, in addition of course, to the Senior Leadership Team and House staff. The successful candidate will be part of the Strategy Group and will report to the Bursar.
Appointment is from February but the start date is flexible for the right candidate. This position is full-time and will especially suit a candidate with experience of working in a public or private sector organisation with experience at a similar level and performing a similar function.

The Director of Admissions works in the Admissions Office, overlooking the beautiful Front
Quad, in the heart of the College.

Staffing
In 2021/22, the College employs 131 members of staff across all departments. Within the
Admissions team there is an Admissions Officer and Admissions Assistant, both of whom report to the Director of Admissions.
At the College, and within the team, there is a strong emphasis on teamwork, mutual support
and flexibility, and the College provides opportunities for innovation and development.
Members of the Support staff are appraised every year. This process provides an opportunity
to review progress and identify future opportunities for development.

The Admissions, Marketing and Student Engagement team is responsible for the recruitment and retention of UK and international students, for all programmes detailed above. It also takes responsibility for all marketing and mass communication, always making sure that marketing is demonstrably linked to both the needs of the organisation and the expectations of our UK and international markets. The team leads with ensuring that alumni and other relevant commercial organisations are fully engaged with life at Queen Ethelburga’s, developing these networks for the benefit of all in the QE community. Finally, widening participation is a key focus of the organisation and the team is expected to work with relevant stakeholders, in order to support students from a wide range of backgrounds, so that they are able to benefit from the opportunities provided by Queen Ethelburga’s.

The team works closely with the Corporate Strategic Team and the Collegiate Leadership Team in order to ensure the financial sustainability of the Collegiate from year to year.

We seek an exceptional person to provide strategic leadership in pupil recruitment and marketing both within and outside the School.
Reporting directly to the Principal, the Director of Admissions and Marketing will have a clear understanding of pupil recruitment in the independent sector and take personal responsibility for achieving agreed targets.
