Director of External Relations

DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS        

for September 2024

The Abingdon Foundation is seeking an innovative and dynamic person to join the School’s Senior Leadership Team as Director of External Relations.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new role with important strategic and operational responsibilities, leading key objectives within the Foundation’s strategic plan at a time of significant change for the sector, as well as having oversight of all day to day admissions, marketing and development operations. The postholder will work closely with both the Head of Foundation, to whom this role reports, as well as the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO). The Director of External Relations will play a key part in the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), working with colleagues to shape and lead a vision for the two schools within the Abingdon Foundation; Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School.

This is a wide-ranging and hands-on role requiring an innovative and dynamic individual who combines highly effective people skills with strong business and market insight, as well as a commitment to the particular ethos, values and history of Abingdon School and Abingdon Preparatory School. The successful candidate will strive to deliver consistently outstanding results, building with innovation and vision upon a strong platform.

We are keen to hear from candidates with a variety of different experiences and backgrounds, providing they have the drive and the attributes to take forward Abingdon’s external relations activities.

The position is a permanent, full-time, year-round role with a competitive salary and generous benefits including up to 14.1% employer pension contribution, private healthcare insurance and discounted school fees. Due to the seniority and nature of this role, flexibility around working hours is essential, with evening and weekend work required to support key events. Periods of overseas travel will also be required.
