About Albyn School
Albyn School is one of Scotland’s leading independent day schools. Founded in 1867 by Harriet Warrack, a pioneer of education for girls and young women, and set in the heart of Aberdeen’s West End, the School
educates 800 children aged 2 to 18.
In 2017 we celebrated our 150th anniversary and we look forward to 2025 when we will celebrate several key milestones: the 200th anniversary of the birth of our founder, the 100th anniversary of the school on its present site on Queen’s Road, as well as the 20th anniversary of co-education.

We are proud of our modern, inclusive and progressive community which is shaped by our pioneering early teachers and school leaders who prepared the girls and young women of Aberdeen for a university education. Our pupils are confident without being arrogant; they look out for each other; they do the right thing, even when no-one is looking, and they respect difference.
Albyn School consists of three distinct sections. Our Nursery caters for 120 children in its own dedicated accommodation. Our Lower School of just over 270 pupils is housed in 16 purpose-built classrooms with access to its own Library as well as all the facilities of the Upper School, and our Upper School has just over 400 pupils from S1 to S6.

A number of year groups are currently operating waiting lists and future plans include refurbishing and further developing our Music School and music practice facilities as well as enhancing our offsite Sports facilities.

Our Facilities
The facilities at Albyn School are high quality and provide a stimulating environment for innovative teaching and a first-class education. Set within a compact site in the heart of Aberdeen’s West End, the School’s main frontage comprises four fabulous, interlinked, Victorian, granite villas, plus three significant, later extensions. Aberdeen city centre is a 20 minute walk away and with Edinburgh 2½ hours away by train and Aberdeen International Airport a 20 minute drive, Albyn is well connected to the rest of Scotland.

We are continually improving and developing the School site to support the highest quality learning possible. Mindful of our great Victorian heritage, we blend the traditional with the modern, helping to keep our campus in shape for the next generation. At the heart of our development plans is the desire to enrich the everyday learning experience of our pupils, to raise their aspirations and to support a multi-faceted curriculum both inside and outside the classroom.
